Dr. Mohamed Elkhosht, President of Cairo University, participated in the Digital Economy Technologies Conference and Exhibition “Seamless Middle East 2024”, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and Supreme President of the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy, at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Dr. Elkhosht also attended the meeting of the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy, under the auspices of the League of Arab States, and organized by the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy.
During the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy, Dr. Mohamed Al-Khasht stressed the pivotal role of international research cooperation between Cairo University and the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy and the great scientific impact of this cooperation in advancing the digital transformation processes of the Arab economy.
Dr. Al-Khasht pointed out the role of Cairo University in spreading entrepreneurship thought in cooperation with the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy, which adopts the One Million Arab Entrepreneurs initiative, where the entrepreneurship course was developed and circulated as a course to all faculties and students of Cairo University since 2018 at a time coinciding with the launch of the vision. Dr. Elkhosht witnessed the announcement of the results of the Arab Index for the Digital Economy “2024” report, the launch of the initiative to establish the “Hekma” Center for Scientific Research at the level of Arab and Islamic countries, and the Arab Artificial Intelligence Initiative to support innovation, develop sectoral solutions, and access to information in the Arabic language.
The President of Cairo University praised the UAE, which has become one of the most important centers of the global economy, its vital role in global trade, and its prominent role in promoting Arab cooperation, especially through the Arab Vision for the Digital Economy initiative, which Cairo University is considered one of the prominent partners in preparing and in developing and promoting the digital economy and cooperation. And innovation to achieve sustainable development for Arab societies.
Dr. Elkhosht expressed his appreciation for the depth of the Egyptian-Emirati strategic relations and his appreciation for the depth of the ties between the Egyptian and Emirati political leadership and between the two brotherly peoples.
The conference comes within the framework of the Arab Vision for the Digital Economy project that was announced in Abu Dhabi in December 2018 with the participation of Cairo University under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and the supervision of Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and in the presence of a group of Arab and international leaders, and Dr. Ali Muhammad Al-Khouri, advisor to the Council of Arab Economic Unity, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Union for the Digital Economy, ambassadors of Arab and foreign countries accredited to the Emirates, a large number of Arab delegations, government officials and experts in the fields of the digital economy, and a number of specific Arab organizations and federations operating within the scope of the League of Arab States. .
The conference was also attended by more than 500 speakers in 200 sessions and lectures, and more than 25,000 officials from the public and private sectors, representing more than 5,000 institutions from 130 countries, while the number of exhibiting companies and institutions exceeded 720 international companies and 400 startups. The main topics of the conference include digital banking services, digital identity, the fields of electronic and digital payments, e-commerce, the retail sector, financial technology, digital identity, banking services, and logistics services.
It is worth noting that Dr. Mohamed Elkhosht had approved a cooperation agreement between Cairo University and the Council of Arab Economic Unity, in September 2018, in the areas of supporting the digital economy in the Arab countries within the framework of a “strategic vision for the transformation to the digital economy in the Arab countries.” The agreement included Improving the level of knowledge of the digital economy and its importance, participating in the preparation of studies and reports related to the fields of the digital economy in the Arab world, holding conferences, scientific seminars and joint workshops related to the digital economy, and cooperating with Arab governments to develop and harmonize legislation and laws aimed at facilitating the activation of modern digital economy mechanisms and systems, Educating and guiding investors to adopt adequate facilities and infrastructure to ensure that the mechanisms and applications of the digital economy are practiced safely and reliably, and to benefit from the best practices, legal and legislative frameworks, and similar international experiences.
