The 59th regular meeting of the specialized Arab federations operating under the scope of the Council of Arab Economic Unity was launched in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, under the chairmanship of Ambassador Mohamed Ahmed El-Ni, Secretary-General of the Council, and in the presence of the permanent delegates of the member states of the Council, and the heads and secretaries-general of the specialized Arab federations.
In his opening speech during the meeting, Ambassador Elne said that the Arab countries possess great economic resources and wealth that enable them to achieve food security for their people, and establish advanced industries to achieve Arab economic integration by supporting Arab economic blocs and major joint Arab projects.
He added that despite the availability of all the basic elements for establishing Arab economic integration, this experience is still progressing slowly, indicating the Council’s keenness to support its affiliated federations in all possible ways and available capabilities and to place them under their responsibility and jurisdiction, in accordance with the rules and regulations to achieve comprehensive economic development.
The Secretary-General stressed that the encouragement, support and perseverance of the specialized Arab unions of the Council of Arab Economic Unity will have a positive impact and will be an incentive moving forward to enhance cooperation, consultation and coordination in a way that serves joint Arab action.
The Arab Federation for the Digital Economy participated in the meeting with a high-level delegation headed by His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Khair Abdel Qader, Secretary-General of the Federation, who spoke at the opening session of the meeting and stressed the role required of Arab federations within the framework of the joint Arab action system in the next stage.
The Secretary-General of the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy also presented a working paper entitled “The Data Economy and its Role in Strengthening Arab Economic Systems,” explaining the challenges facing the Arab world in this strategic and growing sector.
Within the framework of the tasks and competencies of the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy, His Excellency the Ambassador referred to the Arab Vision for the Digital Economy prepared by the Union and welcomed by the Arab Summit in Algeria in November 2022 as a reference and regulatory framework for digital transformation in the economies of Arab countries, and pointed to some of the most important projects of this vision that the Union supervises the implementation of, Including the Digital Arab Food Market Initiative, he invited concerned companies operating within the framework of Arab federations to register in the Digital Arab Food Platform, which aims to achieve food security in the Arab region.
