With Arab and foreign participation, the activities of the International Scientific Conference on Digital Transformation and its Implications were launched today On sustainable development, which is organized by the Faculty of Economics at the University of Damascus, in cooperation with the National Union of Syrian Students and the “Interactive” Foundation for Exhibitions and Conferences.

The conference, which will be held over three days in the Damascus University amphitheater, highlights contemporary research and experiences in the field of digital transformation and its role in sustainable development, methods of applying it in all fields, the digital economy and its impact in promoting economic growth, the role of electronic management in achieving sustainable development, and the transformation strategy. Digital in the government sector, and the challenges facing the accounting and auditing profession in light of digital developments.

Researchers and specialists from many countries are participating in the conference, including Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, the Sultanate of Oman, Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, Iran, India, and the United Kingdom, in addition to the participation of a number of ministries, government agencies, institutions, and private companies in Syria.

In his speech during the opening, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, affirmed the Ministry’s endeavor to establish quality foundations in its educational institutions, which contributed to improving and ranking the sites of our universities by relying on new strategies and scientific plans that include the standards that must be followed in light of a competitive scientific environment.

In turn, the Minister of Communications and Technology, Dr. Iyad Al-Khatib, said: Digital transformation has a role in enhancing communication and transparency, achieving processing speed and operational efficiency, reducing the waste of public money, and enabling the process of sustainable development in building a digital economy based on diversity and knowledge, in line with Syria’s Vision 2030 and the leadership’s directives. .

The Governor of Damascus, Engineer Muhammad Tariq Krishati, gave a presentation on the strategy and reality of digital transformation in the governorate, which was prepared in cooperation with the University of Damascus and the General Organization for Technical Industries, based on the current reality of information technology in the governorate and Syria in general and the repercussions of the terrorist war, which affected the completion and stability of the infrastructure and software, pointing out the existence of a platform. Digital administration includes all administrative work in the governorate.

The President of the University of Damascus, Dr. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, considered that digital transformation in the higher education sector has an important impact on the way its institutions work at all levels in teaching, learning, and scientific research. The use of innovative technology and the shift to digital systems enables us to access information, simplify operations, and contributes to achieving development. Sustainable.

Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Dr. Hussein Dahdouh, believed that in light of digital transformation, analyzing the data that supports the work of governments and institutions becomes easier and more accurate, enabling them to achieve greater benefit from it, which is reflected in improving government performance and enhancing accountability and transparency.

In the speech of the strategic sponsor of the conference, the CEO of the Bank of Syria and the Gulf, Hussein Sharaf, indicated the keenness to support initiatives and projects that contribute to building a digital future in Syria, believing in the importance of innovation and creativity and the necessity of cooperation, exchanging knowledge, and benefiting from the potential provided by modern technologies.

 

Regarding the efforts of the Syrian branch office in the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy to complete the digital transformation process, the head of the office, Dr. Ammar Dalloul, spoke about the current cooperation with the government, ministries, public and private bodies and institutions, and business community organizations to contribute to the establishment and implementation of more initiatives, projects and programs, which aim to increase the percentage of… Transitioning the economy from traditional to digital, and contributing to reconstruction and building the local economy.

Executive Director of Interactive Exhibitions and Conferences Company, Maher Sheikh Al-Ard, pointed out that researchers and participants present during the conference everything that is new in the field of digital transformation, and develop proposals and recommendations specifically on the subject of the infrastructure for digital transformation in Syria, to determine what the basic system is for building this process.

In turn, Dr. Zahir Al-Qurashi, head of the delegation of Jordanian universities, said: “We came to transfer the Jordanian experience to the University of Damascus, which produced a group of the most important scientists and innovators and had the largest role and the best role in leading the rest of the universities,” indicating the importance of the conference in light of the tremendous technological progress the world is witnessing. .

The opening of the conference included the presentation of honorary shields to the parties supporting and participating in the conference, then the opening of a scientific exhibition in the Reda Saeed Conference Hall, and a peer-reviewed scientific competition for digital transformation research for researchers, graduate students and academics in the digital transformation project, and a discussion of its reality and the strategy for its implementation in the Syrian government sector with a presentation of Arab experiences.
