Abu Dhabi
The Arab Federation for the Digital Economy, a member of the Forum of Specific and Specialized Arab Federations of the League of Arab States, held a coordination meeting with the Ministry of Commerce in the Republic of Iraq, to discuss ways of cooperation in the projects implemented by the Union.
The meeting included discussion of a number of important topics, including: Strengthening cooperation in implementing the e-commerce project and the Arab digital food market platform for the benefit of the Arab region.
This project comes in the context of the fifty initiatives and projects emanating from the Arab vision for the digital economy, which was announced for the first time at the International Conference for the Arab Digital Economy, which was held in Abu Dhabi in December 2018, under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State. God” which aims to advance digital economic development, as a step to pave the way towards building a sustainable digital economy in the region, which was approved at the Leaders’ Summit in Algeria in November 2022.
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Khair Abdel Qader, Secretary-General of the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy, and His Excellency Dr. Hussein Ali Musa, the commercial attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Iraq in Cairo, Mr. Majid Hamid, Director of Arab and International Organizations at the Ministry of Commerce in the Republic of Iraq, Dr. Ayman Mukhtar Ghoneim, Assistant Secretary of the Union, and representatives of both parties.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that food security constitutes one of the major challenges facing the Arab peoples and the world as a whole, and the importance of economic and investment integration between Arab countries to achieve food security in its various dimensions and components and to deal with the challenges that were reflected in the Arab countries due to international changes.
Representatives of the Ministry of Commerce expressed the importance of the initiative because of the solutions it provides to enhance food security and link exporters, importers, and all suppliers of supporting services within the Arab Food Market Initiative, and it was agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two parties.
