Salalah – Sultanate of Oman
The Arab Union for Digital Economy and the Arab Union of Customs Brokers signed, on the sidelines of the activities of the seventh session of the Forum of Specific, Specialized Arab Unions, which was held in Salalah, Sultanate of Oman, under the auspices of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, a cooperation agreement to facilitate the movement of inter-Arab trade.
The agreement was signed by His Excellency Dr. Mamdouh Abdullah Al-Rifai, Chairman of the Arab Union of Customs Brokers, and His Excellency Ayman Mukhtar Ghoneim, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab Union for Digital Economy, in the presence of the Minister Plenipotentiary / Mohamed Khair Abdel Qader, Director of the Organizations and Unions Department of the League of Arab States, representatives from both organizations, and a crowd of Arab economic figures and other participating unions in the forum.
The agreement defines the objectives and areas of cooperation and the roles of the concerned parties, and stresses the importance of cooperation to achieve a common Arab vision for the digital economy.
This agreement aims to enhance cooperation for the purposes of launching and operating e-commerce platforms, and exchanging knowledge and experiences in support of promoting cross-border e-commerce.
Under the agreement, the two parties seek to cooperate and establish coordination mechanisms and executive procedures in areas of common interest, with the aim of supporting the Arab Free Trade Agreement (JAFTA), enhancing trade exchange through e-commerce and modern technology capabilities, and providing reliable Arab cooperative mechanisms to enable the digital transformation of intra- and transit Arab trade. borders, which is in line with the directions of Arab leaders and the General Secretariat of the Arab League.
Many areas of common interest for cooperation were identified, such as providing consultations and providing available data to government agencies and agencies and the private sector in the Arab world with the aim of advancing Arab economic development, and cooperation in preparing research and studies in the digital economic, commercial and customs fields, as well as contributing to the development of infrastructure. Technology, enhancing the knowledge content of the Arab countries, and coordinating between the two federations to organize joint (conferences – seminars – training programs – workshops) to build capabilities, spread awareness, increase production and transfer technology to traders, importers and exporters.
