The Arab Federation for the Digital Economy participated with a delegation in the Food Security Conference and Exhibition, which was held under the title “Food industries and their role in achieving food security,” which was held in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh during the days of October 2 and 3, under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, King of the Kingdom of Morocco, and jointly organized by all From the League of Moroccan Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Services and the Union of Arab Chambers of the League of Arab States.
During the conference, food security issues were discussed and addressed at the international level. In the presence of many experts and interested parties from around the world, it also witnessed wide participation from companies and institutions interested in the field of agriculture and food security.
During the conference sessions, it was emphasized that food security constitutes one of the major challenges facing the Arab peoples and the world as a whole, stressing the importance of economic and investment integration between the Arab countries to achieve food security in its various dimensions and components and to deal with the challenges that were reflected in the Arab countries due to international changes. The Union has explained The Arab Digital Economy believes that the challenges that will face the Arab food market in the future are climate changes and their impact on food production and the availability of water resources, which requires us to work to develop and implement new strategies to enhance sustainability and preserve the important natural resources for food production.
During the conference activities, the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy presented an overview of the Arab Food Market Initiative, which establishes a broad alliance between government agencies, the public and private sectors, and the technological sector to create a digital virtual market through which the export capabilities of producers of different specializations can be enhanced, and administrative and technological solutions for transactions related to export activities can be found.
He stated that the Arab Food Market platform is an advanced digital platform that connects its various components, which include the exporter and seller, the buyer and importer, as well as all suppliers of supporting services, which include “transportation – logistics services – storage – inspection, testing and classification – issuance of certificates – financing and lending – insurance – clearance.” Customs”, and the implementation mechanisms depend on Blockchain technology, through which financial dues can be transferred according to the agreed-upon contracting mechanism and guaranteed by the platform through an intermediary bank account that allows the payment of amounts according to the completion of work and approvals on the system, to be transferred between digital wallets from the importer to the exporter.
This project comes in the context of the fifty initiatives and projects emanating from the Arab vision for the digital economy, which was announced for the first time at the International Conference for the Arab Digital Economy, which was held in Abu Dhabi in December 2018, under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State. God” which aims to advance digital economic development, as a step to pave the way towards building a sustainable digital economy in the region, which was approved at the Leaders’ Summit in Algeria in November 2022.
