The Gaza war had a major impact on the agricultural sector and food security in the Arab world. An increase in the duration of the conflict may lead to the disruption of agricultural activities and the destruction of crops and vital infrastructure such as irrigation systems and storage facilities, in addition to affecting navigation and closing roads, which affects global supply chains to reach the region, and thus leads to a decrease in food production and an increase in food prices. Which affects food security in the region.

To reduce the impact of the Gaza war on agriculture and food security in the Arab region and to determine the necessary measures to confront the challenges, Arab countries must quickly take measures aimed at improving the resilience of the agricultural sector, increasing food production, and enhancing food security in the Arab world through three main priorities for action, which are: Improving data and information on the impacts of disasters on all sub-sectors of agriculture, i.e. crops, livestock, fisheries, aquaculture and forestry. A multi-sectoral disaster risk reduction approach must be developed and mainstreamed into policy making, and programs should be developed at all levels to enhance investments in resilience. To reduce risks.

Just as the war in Gaza had a major impact on Arab agriculture and food security, it also had a profound economic, social, and environmental impact on the Palestinian people. In particular, the Israeli occupation, military operations, and restrictions imposed on economic agreements exacerbated the Palestinian economic situation, as a result of the food market’s dependence on Food sources and Israeli purchasing power. This difference has led to food prices rising to a level that some Palestinian families cannot afford, which has led to a decline in Palestinian agricultural capabilities, a decline in economic activity as a whole, and an increase in unemployment, making the Gaza Strip dependent on food aid.

It is shocking that about 68% of families in the Gaza Strip suffer from food insecurity, as families struggle to provide food for their families every day. During 2013 and 2014, the number and types of assistance needed by families in the Gaza Strip increased significantly, including cash assistance. Health insurance, food, drinking water, clothing, and food vouchers. The Gaza war also had a devastating impact on Arab agriculture and food security, as millions of Palestinians still struggle to obtain adequate food and other basic necessities.

The Arab region has been facing serious challenges represented by food insecurity for decades. The region is struggling to feed its population, a problem exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, the conflict in Gaza and many other causes related to climate, agriculture and irrigation methods.

On the other hand, there are many areas where food production can be increased and measures can be taken to improve food distribution, including providing farmers with seeds, fertilizers and training in modern agricultural techniques to increase yields and improve local food security for the population.

Governments, non-governmental organizations and local communities must also exert their efforts to raise awareness of the issue of food insecurity, develop partnerships to address the problem, and take measures to provide funding to support these projects.
