The Arab Federation for the Digital Economy launched the updated version of the “Arab Digital Economy Index 2024”, during the “Seamless Middle East 2024” digital economy technologies conference and exhibition.
The results of the index for the year (2024) showed that the Arab Gulf countries continue their leadership in the field of digital growth, as the UAE comes at the forefront of these countries with a remarkable performance. The report indicated that despite the global challenges, the UAE maintains its position as a major reference in development. Digital, which highlights the UAE’s leadership in this field.
The group of countries came in the second category, which includes Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, and Lebanon, within the classification of “countries active in digital transformation.” The report indicated that these countries show a clear ambition to raise the level of their technological capabilities and improve their digital infrastructure, which is what It is an important step towards realizing the full benefits of the digital revolution.
As for the group of countries in the third category, which includes Iraq, Syria, Djibouti, Mauritania, Sudan, Libya, Comoros, Somalia, Yemen, and Palestine, they are among the “countries seeking development.” The report highlighted that these countries are working hard to overcome the great challenges they face in Its endeavor to integrate into the global digital economy, and achieve tangible progress towards strengthening its infrastructure and developing its digital capabilities.
The report’s findings reflect the varying dynamics of digital growth in the region, and indicate the importance of continuing efforts to support and enhance digital infrastructure, as well as the urgent need for innovative strategies that enhance the maximum benefit from digital technologies in supporting economic growth and social development in the region.
The Arab Digital Economy Index Report, which has been issued every two years since 2018, is a strategic tool to support national policy makers supporting the digital economy, and to advance sustainable development efforts in the Arab world. It also aims to provide a detailed benchmark for each country individually, through which Assessing the level of maturity of the experience of transforming towards a digital economy and the returns from it, and to create the required feedback to enable the decision maker to direct the compass appropriately to maximize the return on the overall economy, which must achieve the desired benefit from digital transformation and the spread of technological applications.
