The Board of Directors of the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy held its regular meeting today on the sidelines of the Digital Economy Conference (Seamless Middle East) in Dubai 2024. The meeting was attended by His Excellency the President of the General Assembly, His Excellency and His Excellency the members of the Board of Directors, and a group of prominent members of the Federation.
The President of the General Assembly, His Excellency Eng. Atef Helmy, praised the efforts of the Union and its General Secretariat, noting that the Union’s superior performance exceeded all expectations. He praised the achievements made and the importance of continuing these efforts to achieve more successes in the future.
He explained that the Union is working to launch new projects aimed at delivering its services to every corner of the Arab world, which enhances the role of Arab organizations in improving the quality of life for Arab citizens and makes their impact tangible and effective.
He expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the leadership of the United Arab Emirates, especially His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Honorary President of the Union, for his continued support and sound guidance that contributed to strengthening the Union’s journey and achieving its strategic goals.”
The Chairman of the Board of Directors, His Excellency Dr. Ali Al-Khouri, began the meeting, indicating that the Union is heading towards a new stage of performance and achievement. He explained that the Union is working to launch new projects aimed at delivering its services to every corner of the Arab world, which enhances the role of Arab organizations in improving the quality of life for Arab citizens and makes their impact tangible and effective.
His Excellency Ambassador/Mohamed Khair, Secretary-General of the Union, presented the meeting with an opening speech in which he welcomed the attending members, and stressed the importance of joint efforts in strengthening the Arab digital economy. The meeting reviewed the follow-up report on the decisions of the Board of Directors and the previous General Assembly, where the various achievements and activities of the Federation during the past period were discussed.
The Federation’s main achievements included organizing multiple international conferences, completing official procedures to establish new branches in Iraq and Syria, in addition to publishing a study on the data economy and its role in strengthening Arab economic systems. It was also announced the release of the Arab Digital Economy Index Report for 2024.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation stages of the Union’s ongoing initiatives, such as the Arab Food Market Initiative, the Arab Platform for Education and Training, and the One Million Entrepreneurs Initiative. The attendees highlighted the challenges facing these projects and the importance of finding investment bodies to support them.
The meeting concluded with discussions on practical steps to support the Union’s future projects, while members stressed the necessity of continued cooperation with investment and government agencies to achieve the Union’s vision of strengthening the digital economy in the Arab world.
It is noteworthy that the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy is an entity established by the Council of Arab Economic Unity, and it is one of the active federations that works under the supervision of His Excellency the Secretary-General of the Arab League, and a member of various Arab committees. It had launched the Arab Vision for the Digital Economy initiative, which was approved at the Arab Leaders Summit. In Algeria as a reference and guide for Arab countries to develop the foundations of the digital economy in the Arab region.
The Arab Federation for the Digital Economy aims to enhance digital economic cooperation between Arab countries, and provide an integrated platform for exchanging experiences and knowledge in this vital field. Through these efforts, the Union seeks to advance economic development in the region and achieve a qualitative leap in improving the national income of member states. The Union also focuses on enhancing technological and human capabilities, and raising the level of Arab citizens’ income and quality of life.
In this context, the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy continues to play a vital role that goes beyond the cognitive, research and awareness aspects, as the Federation undertakes practical and executive roles that vary between developing digital platforms in the fields of trade and education, and implementing development projects with a strategic and scientific dimension. The Federation also supports entrepreneurs and acts as a bridge to the future, highlighting the most important current and future opportunities. With this approach, the Union seeks to be an active and supportive partner to its Arab community, enhancing its role in achieving comprehensive development and prosperity.
Through these strategic directions, the Union aspires to achieve the advancement and development of Arab countries in the digital age, and to enhance their economic position on the global arena. The Union is leading a comprehensive digital transformation process aimed at building a sustainable economy capable of facing the challenges of the future, thus enhancing the role of Arab organizations in supporting comprehensive development and common prosperity.
