In his keynote address at the Seamless 2025 Conference, His Excellency Dr. Ali Mohammed Al Khouri, Advisor to the Council of Arab Economic Unity and President of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, emphasized the profound impact of global transformations in reshaping national economic models. He highlighted the pivotal role of the digital economy in guiding the development path in the Arab region.
In his address to a number of economic leaders and digital experts, the President of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy emphasized that the world is witnessing a pivotal moment in its history, and that this calls for different ways of thinking about confronting current economic challenges. He explained that the negative forecasts for global economic growth in 2025, due to trade tensions and rising inflation rates, necessitate the adoption of flexible economic models capable of adapting to these changes.
His Excellency indicated that the digital economy has become a pivotal tool for achieving sustainable growth in the Arab world, reviewing advanced global experiences that record significant contributions of this sector to GDP. He predicted that the digital economy’s contribution to Arab countries would reach approximately 15% by 2030, equivalent to $900 billion, provided the legislative and technical environment supports the sector’s growth.
He also pointed out that the most prominent challenges hindering the progress of the digital economy in the Arab world are the widening digital gap, weak human readiness, and delayed development of legal and regulatory frameworks. Proposing solutions, he called for intensifying spending on telecommunications networks and technology services, launching education and training programs that anticipate the needs of the future economy, and reforming the legislative system to keep pace with the pace of innovation and support the digital business environment.
The President of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy concluded his speech by calling for joint action between governments and the private sector to ensure a comprehensive digital transformation, emphasizing that the digital economy has become a national and regional necessity to reposition Arab countries at the heart of the global economy.
