As part of its ongoing efforts to support the Arab digital economy and promote sustainable development, the Arab Federation for Digital Economy presented the updated version of the Arab Digital Economy Index 2024 during the 118th Ministerial Meeting of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, held in Cairo, Egypt, on December 19, 2024.
The Ministers of the member states of the Council of Arab Economic Unity praised the importance of the index as a strategic tool for monitoring digital economy developments in the Arab world and measuring the performance of member states in the areas of digital transformation, innovation, and technological readiness.
The Council issued a decision to adopt the Arab Digital Economy Index and circulate it to member states to benefit from the data and analysis it provides in formulating future economic policies. The Council also thanked the working group that prepared the report for their efforts. This decision comes within the framework of strengthening Arab economic integration and developing policies that contribute to achieving sustainable development.
The Arab Digital Economy Index is one of the most prominent periodic publications of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy. It is updated every two years to reflect the latest data and analysis related to digital developments in Arab countries. The index is based on global standards for measuring performance in the sectors of digital infrastructure, digital education, e-commerce, innovation, and digital governance, making it a comprehensive reference for decision-makers and researchers interested in accelerating digital transformation.
His Excellency Ambassador Mohammed Khair Abdel Qader, Secretary-General of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, expressed the importance of the index, saying: “The Arab Digital Economy Index represents a fundamental pillar for supporting sustainable economic development in the Arab world and enhancing the readiness of member states for the requirements of the digital age. It constitutes a pivotal step in supporting Arab economic policies. The index also reflects the Arab Federation for Digital Economy’s commitment to providing innovative analytical tools that contribute to formulating effective economic policies.”
