GITEX Africa 2026: Morocco boosts digital leadership with record participation

Marrakech — Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Minister of Digital Transition and Administration Reform, announced a significant leap in the fourth edition of GITEX Africa, revealing that the number of participating startups has doubled compared to the 2025 edition, with the presence of 400 investors and 1,500 exhibitors, reflecting the rapidly accelerating momentum of digital transformation across the African continent.


Record Figures Reflect Growing Momentum

During a press conference held today to unveil details of the new edition, Seghrouchni revealed that GITEX Africa 2026, which will take place in Marrakech from April 7 to 9, will feature:

  • 1,500 exhibitors from around the world.
  • 500 investors supporting digital and technology projects.
  • A significant increase in the number of startups, rising from 200 in 2025 to 300, particularly in artificial intelligence and advanced technology sectors.

The minister emphasized that this growth reflects the rising awareness of Africa’s digital needs, stressing that the exhibition has become more than just an international event, describing it as “a gateway for growth and accelerating digital sector development.”


Tangible Results on the Ground

Seghrouchni highlighted that startup participation in the 2025 edition of GITEX Africa resulted in raising more than $15 million, demonstrating the event’s ability to transform innovation into real economic value.

She added:

“This momentum has delivered tangible results. We have moved from 200 startups to 300 in fields such as artificial intelligence and advanced technologies, distributed across all 12 regions of Morocco.”


A Platform for Cooperation and Innovation

The minister explained that GITEX Africa is not simply a technology exhibition but rather an integrated platform:

  • For networking and relationship building among stakeholders in the technology sector.
  • For developing solutions to current digital challenges, particularly in cybersecurity and the digital economy.
  • For supporting youth entrepreneurship by connecting innovators with investors.

She also noted that the event contributes to improving public digital services, as companies from all Moroccan regions participate, helping ensure balanced distribution of digital investments.


Strengthening South–South Cooperation

Seghrouchni stressed that hosting the event reinforces Morocco’s position as a regional hub for digital cooperation, stating:

“This event strengthens collaboration between companies and various stakeholders and enhances Morocco’s role in South–South digital cooperation by sharing expertise and supporting African and Arab countries in their digital transition.”


A Bet on Digital Sovereignty

As part of preparations for 2030 strategic goals, the minister emphasized that GITEX Africa contributes to strengthening Morocco’s digital sovereignty through:

  • Supporting innovative startups.
  • Accelerating digitalization efforts.
  • Improving the quality and efficiency of digital services.

Seghrouchni concluded by affirming that this momentum positions Morocco as a platform for accelerating growth and supporting startups, creating a qualitative leap in the digital sector in line with national strategic directions that place innovation and technology at the heart of development.
