The Arab Federation for Digital Economy announced the appointment of Professor Dr. Ahmed Mustafa Al-Sherbini as Secretary-General of the Federation, within the framework of an institutional path aimed at expanding its executive capabilities, supporting the implementation of its strategic programs, and keeping pace with the rapid changes witnessed by the digital economy at the regional and international levels.
The decision comes at a time when it is increasingly important to build Arab institutions that have the ability to develop joint initiatives, formulate policies that support the digital economy, and link innovation to economic development, in light of the profound transformations taking place in digital technologies, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and the data economy.
Professor Ahmed Mostafa El-Sherbiny possesses over four decades of professional and academic experience in the fields of communications, information technology, and digital policy, during which he held leadership positions at the national, regional, and international levels. He served as Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology in the Arab Republic of Egypt, headed the National Telecommunications Institute, and contributed to the design and implementation of national programs in the areas of digital infrastructure development, capacity building, and scientific research.
He also held leadership roles in the International Telecommunication Federation, and served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Organization for Communication and Information Technologies, affiliated with the League of Arab States. He participated in the work of a number of Arab committees and programs concerned with developing digital policies and anticipating the future of the communications sector and the digital economy.
In addition to his executive experience, Dr. El-Sherbiny is a professor of electronics and electrical communications engineering at the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University. He has made scientific and research contributions in the fields of communications and information technology, and holds a number of patents. He also served as a member of the board of directors of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and gained extensive experience in the regulatory and legislative aspects of the communications sector.
On this occasion, His Excellency Engineer Atef Helmy, former Minister of Communications and Information Technology of the Arab Republic of Egypt and Chairman of the General Assembly of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, said that the current stage requires Arab institutions that possess leadership competencies capable of managing digital transformations and converting strategic visions into implementable programs and initiatives, noting that the extensive experience of Dr. El-Sherbiny represents added value to the Federation’s journey in the next stage.
For his part, His Excellency Dr. Ali Mohammed Al-Khouri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, said that the digital economy is no longer an independent sector, but has become the framework that is reshaping national economies, value chains, government services, investment, and human capital, which requires Arab institutions to continuously develop their tools and mechanisms of work to keep pace with this transformation.
He added: “The Federationcontinues to build an institutional system based on experience, knowledge and effective partnerships, enabling the implementation of Arab initiatives with a sustainable impact. The appointment of Professor Dr. Ahmed Mustafa El-Sherbiny comes as an extension of this approach, stemming from his long experience in public administration, joint Arab action, and international institutions, and the vision he possesses that combines academic depth with executive experience.”
Professor Dr. Ahmed Mustafa El-Sherbiny expressed his pride in the confidence of the Federation’s Board of Directors, stressing that the next phase will focus on developing institutional performance, raising the efficiency of program implementation, and expanding areas of cooperation with Arab, regional and international governments and institutions, in order to support the implementation of the Federation’s vision and keep pace with the priorities of digital development in Arab countries.
The Arab Federation for Digital Economy continues to implement its programs in partnership with governments and regional and international institutions, based on its vision to build a more integrated and competitive Arab digital economy, and to develop initiatives that support innovation, knowledge transfer, capacity building, and harnessing digital technologies to serve sustainable economic and social development.
