His Excellency Ambassador Mohammed Ahmed Al-Ni, Secretary General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, received at the Council’s headquarters in Cairo, His Excellency Counselor Dr. Ali Mohammed Al-Khouri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, His Excellency Professor Dr. Ahmed Al-Sherbini, Secretary General of the Federation, and the accompanying delegation, in the context of following up on the Federation’s work programs and discussing its priorities and initiatives during the next stage.
The meeting witnessed a discussion of a number of files related to the development of the digital economy in Arab countries, and ways to expand the scope of initiatives and projects implemented by the Federation , in order to support the efforts of Arab countries in the areas of digital transformation, modern technologies, innovation, and the development of a knowledge-based economy.
The meeting also addressed the Federation’s work priorities in the next phase, and the opportunities available to develop joint Arab projects that respond to the rapid transformations in the economy and technology, and contribute to employing digital tools more broadly in supporting economic development, increasing productivity, improving the business environment, and opening new areas for trade, investment, and the private sector.
The Federation’s delegation reviewed a number of programs and initiatives it is working on, along with visions related to developing cooperation with relevant Arab bodies and institutions, and benefiting from regional and international experiences in supporting policies and projects related to the digital economy.
The discussions touched on the importance of developing practical frameworks that help transform digital initiatives into projects with a measurable economic impact, and linking digital transformation programs to the developmental and economic priorities of Arab countries, with a focus on areas where technology can directly contribute to the development of productive sectors, government services, trade and investment.
His Excellency Ambassador Mohamdy Ahmed Neya stressed the importance of the role played by the specialized Arab federations affiliated with the Council of Arab Economic Unity in supporting joint Arab economic action, pointing to the importance of developing initiatives and projects that respond to the transformations taking place in the global economy and serve the economic interests of the Arab countries.
For his part, His Excellency Counselor Dr. Ali Mohammed Al-Khouri stressed that the next stage requires moving from focusing on digital transformation as a technical path to dealing with it as one of the drivers of economic growth, productivity and competitiveness, explaining that the Federation is working on developing initiatives and projects that help Arab countries benefit more from the rapid transformations in the fields of technology, artificial intelligence and the digital economy.
He pointed out that the Federation’s priorities focus on developing feasible Arab projects, building broader institutional partnerships, and linking digital initiatives to the needs of governments, the private sector, and Arab markets, thereby contributing to increasing the economic value resulting from investments in technology and digital transformation.
His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al-Sherbini stressed the importance of developing the executive work mechanisms of the Federation and expanding coordination with the relevant Arab authorities, in order to accelerate the implementation of initiatives and programs and transform them into practical results that serve the Arab economies and support the paths of Arab economic integration.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of continued coordination between the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Economic Unity and the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, following up on priority programs and initiatives, and working to develop joint projects that contribute to supporting the Arab digital economy and keeping pace with the rapid global transformations in technology and innovation.
