The Central Bank: The number of electronic wallets has increased to 12 million

Ayman Hussein, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank for Information Technology and Payment Systems, said that the number of e-wallets issued by banks has reached approximately 12 million for approximately 10.5 million customers.

On the sidelines of his participation in the First Arab Digital Economy Conference today, Hussein explained that the Central Bank has set several controls and standards for banks to activate e-wallet services, foremost among which is achieving an annual growth of 30% in the number of wallets issued by each bank.

He added that the percentage of active wallets should reach 10% of the total wallets issued by each bank.

The First Arab Digital Economy Conference kicked off today, Sunday, in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The conference aims to launch a common Arab vision for the digital economy as a key factor encouraging increased economic cooperation and inter-Arab trade.
