Dr. Ali Al Khouri, Advisor to the Council of Arab Economic Unity, announced the launch of an initiative to support the digital economy under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. He emphasized that this initiative promotes digital inclusion and develops the legislative and technological infrastructure to achieve economic development in the Arab world.
In statements made today on the sidelines of the Council’s meetings in the United States, with the participation of the United Nations Development Program and the World Bank Group, Al Khouri explained that activating the financial inclusion initiative enhances economic development and investment and opens new markets, fostering more job opportunities to eliminate the economic recession in the Arab world. It also enhances the role of modern technologies in economic and financial transactions.
Al Khouri noted that the United Nations Development Office’s investments in Arab countries amount to $1 billion, directed towards financing e-government.
Al-Khouri revealed the preparation of a strategy for the Arab digital economy, which will be unveiled at an international conference to be hosted in Abu Dhabi in the middle of this month, in preparation for its presentation at the Arab Leaders Summit in Tunisia next March.
