Data from the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology showed that China’s digital industry sector generated revenue of 9.5 trillion yuan (about 1.39 trillion U.S. dollars) during the first quarter of this year, an increase of 12.9% compared to the same period last year, a faster growth rate of 3.5 percentage points.
The sector witnessed a significant jump in profits, with total profits of 737.8 billion yuan, with an annual growth of 23.6%, with the growth rate accelerating by 16.6 percentage points. Profit margin also improved to 7.8%, up by 1 percentage point compared to the previous year, supported by the strong performance of the electronic information manufacturing sector.
With regard to infrastructure, the data showed that the number of 5G base stations exceeded 4.95 million stations until the end of March, and the coverage of advanced 5G-A networks expanded to 330 cities. Sub-sectors witnessed strong growth, with the production of major electronic information manufacturers increasing by 13.6%, while revenues from the software and information technology services sector grew by 11.7% year-on-year.
