Essam Al-Saghir, Secretary-General of the Arab Union for the Digital Economy, said that the Arab vision for the digital economy supports the objectives of the countries of the Arab region in the process of digital transformation; On top of it is Egypt, where the vision agrees with the Egyptian state’s plans for digital transformation within the Egypt Vision 2030, which has taken a great stride represented in the government launching a number of initiatives with the aim of developing digital infrastructure, training the necessary skills and competencies, spreading awareness among citizens and meeting their needs.

He added that the Arab vision for the digital economy aims to rebuild and develop the economic systems in the Arab region, and support joint action efforts to promote and develop the digital economy, as it relies on scientific foundations to achieve the maximum possible benefit according to the various variables and data in each of the Arab countries, based on five main inputs. They are: digital foundations, digital innovation, digital government, digital business, and the digital citizen, pointing out that the strategic vision was developed based on the strategic dimensions and the set of goals emanating from it, which amounted to 20 goals, and the set of programs and projects translated for those goals amounted to 52 strategic programs.

He explained that the vision focused on 6 main areas, following a sectoral analysis of best practices in the business sectors, which are (health care, manufacturing, financial services, education, agriculture and trade), as they represent the most important sectors ready for digital transformation and the most influential on the social and economic level in general. Assessing the readiness of Arab countries and the level of maturity of digital transformation in these sectors.

He stressed that the Arab vision of the digital economy is of great importance, in light of the growing Arab and global interest in the digital economy, which has become at the forefront of the most important causes of global economic growth, noting that the Council of Arab Economic Unity and the Arab Union for the Digital Economy are keen to update the vision according to the urgent changes in the Arab arena. , to reflect the current situation, which is different from before during the year 2018.

It is worth noting that the Arab vision for the digital economy was announced for the first time at the Arab Digital Economy Conference held in Abu Dhabi in December 2018, an event that was sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, and the attendance of hundreds of stakeholders, executives and officials It was prepared by the American Harvard University, Cairo University, international organizations, and experts from the United Nations, the World Bank, the International Economic Cooperation Organization, and the European Union.
