The high-level summit “Artificial Intelligence Towards the Future: From Information Society to Intelligence Society,” organized by the Arab Organization for Information and Communication Technologies in partnership with the Tunisian Ministry of Communication Technologies, concluded in the Tunisian capital, with broad Arab participation and high-level diplomatic and technical presence.

The summit was attended by His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, along with the active participation of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, within the framework of joint efforts to support the implementation of the Arab Initiative for Artificial Intelligence, which was approved by the last Arab Summit in Baghdad.

Aboul Gheit: The world is facing a critical moment similar to the arms race.

In a comprehensive opening address, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States affirmed that the world is facing a pivotal stage driven by smart technologies, noting that the escalating competition among international powers to develop artificial intelligence applications has become like a new “arms race” in which each party seeks to achieve technological superiority and extend its influence.

Aboul Gheit expressed his concerns about the potential economic repercussions of massive and ill-conceived investments in this sector, warning of the formation of an economic bubble that could have serious consequences for global markets in the absence of sound regulatory frameworks. He also stressed the need to address the ethical challenges associated with artificial intelligence, particularly the risks of developing unregulated systems, which could pose a threat to the security of societies and the sovereignty of states.

The Arab Federation for Digital Economy highlights the key facts in the Arab digital landscape.

The participation of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy came to confirm its pivotal role in shaping digital economic visions in the region, as it participated in the summit activities with practical visions that support the Arab transition from the information society to the intelligent society, based on the principles of digital governance and sustainable development.

The summit formed a platform to enhance regional cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, and to coordinate Arab efforts to keep pace with rapid global developments, in order to ensure the competitiveness of Arab economies and their ability to benefit from advanced applications of artificial intelligence in various sectors.

The summit is one of the most prominent Arab milestones in the development of artificial intelligence policies, as it focused on laying practical foundations for a common Arab vision that responds to technological transformations and ensures the safe and responsible use of modern technologies.
