Abu Dhabi
The Arab Federation for Digital Economy hosted a coordination meeting with Mahaseel Misr Company, attended by His Excellency Dr. Ali Mohammed Al-Khouri, President of the Federation, Dr. Mohammed Abdel Rahman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company, and Dr. Ayman Mokhtar Ghoneim, Assistant Secretary-General of the Federation. The meeting was dedicated to discussing the progress made by the Mahaseel platform and its achievements in developing the digital agriculture sector in Egypt and connecting farmers to local and international markets using more accurate and reliable mechanisms.
The two sides reviewed the platform’s growing impact, which now covers more than 120,000 farms across 1.25 million acres, representing approximately 8% of Egypt’s total farms. It has also become a gateway for all Egyptian agricultural exports of fourteen major crops. These successes have elevated Mahaseel’s position as a strategic tool for digitizing the agricultural sector and raising the efficiency of the agricultural value chain.
Despite these results, attendees noted that expansion opportunities remain significant, given the presence of more than 17 million agricultural lands in Egypt. The company’s latest innovative technologies were discussed, including the development of the first generative artificial intelligence system in the Arab agricultural sector, in addition to a digital farm ID that records accurate data on crops, soil, water sources, and geographic location, opening up broad horizons for the transition to smart agriculture.
The meeting also discussed the environmental dimension of the Mahaseel platform, as the agricultural digital identity will contribute to the voluntary carbon trading program overseen by the Financial Regulatory Authority in Egypt. Each acre demonstrates its ability to absorb approximately one ton of carbon dioxide emissions per season, with the possibility of counting two seasons per year. This will grant farmers carbon credits as a new source of income that supports environmental sustainability.
In this context, His Excellency Dr. Ali Mohammed Al Khouri affirmed that the platform represents a successful model for the initiatives launched by the Arab Federation for Digital Economy within the framework of the Arab Vision for the Digital Economy. He emphasized that the Federation has provided full support to the Mahaseel project from the outset, with the aim of transforming it into a leading regional platform for food security. He added that this experience demonstrates how digital technologies can become a strategic lever for the economy, especially in vital sectors such as agriculture, which represents approximately 20% of the Egyptian economy and absorbs approximately 30% of employment.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the Arab Union for Digital Economy’s plans to expand into Arab markets and explore partnerships with Eurasian Union countries and other countries, contributing to the construction of integrated food supply chain systems and strengthening the Arab region’s position in the global agricultural economy.
