The “Consultative Conference and Expert Meetings on the Arab Digital Agenda and the Global Arab Forum for Digital Cooperation and Development” concluded today at the headquarters of the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government in Dubai, after extensive discussions on digital cooperation and the future of modern economies in the region and the world.
The conferees at the conference and meeting discussed the best ways, policies and opinions on crystallizing and setting goals, objectives, indicators and practical, evidence-based priority policy measures to promote digital development that would contribute to achieving the goals of comprehensive Arab development.
The organizers of the international and Arab institutions were also keen to extend their thanks and appreciation to the United Arab Emirates and its wise leadership, the first supporter of Arab initiatives aimed at developing economies based on the visions of the modern digital economy, and for hosting this international Arab gathering of specialists in the fields of the digital economy.
The speakers reviewed the tracks and areas interconnected with the Arab digital agenda through extensive discussions that gave recommendations and effective solutions to enhance these efforts and stability in the Arab countries, within the framework of a proactive approach to help Arab countries keep pace with the digital revolution and benefit from the advantages it offers in the context of the massive digital transformations the world is witnessing.
Yu Ping Chan, the envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Technology in New York, firstly thanked the United Arab Emirates for hosting and unlimited support for the global effort in coordination and cooperation, stressing keenness to participate with all parties in global development efforts and contribute to a brighter future for global societies.
In turn, Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Khaled Wali, Director of the Communications and Information Systems Development Department at the Arab League, and Dr. Ayman El-Sherbiny, Director of Information and Communication Technology Policies, Digital Development and Digital Cooperation at ESCWA thanked the United Arab Emirates for hosting and for their continuous support for the efforts of Arab institutions seeking to promote development and construction in Arab societies and the advancement of the requirements of development and stability.
This meeting and conference comes within the joint project between the Executive Secretariat of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States to set, develop and activate the Arab strategy for information and communication technology (the Arab Digital Agenda), and organized by the Executive Secretariat of ESCWA with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in its hybrid form. The presence and the virtual, in partnership with the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Digital Government of the United Arab Emirates, and the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy, and hosted by the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Government, and in cooperation with partner organizations (Office of the Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Technology in New York, the Arab Regional Office of the International Telecommunication Union , United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO office in Cairo, United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs in New York, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development(UNCTAD) in Geneva, the World Health Organization – Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, the Arab Organization for Communication and Information Technologies (ICTO), the Arab Administrative Development Organization (ARADO), the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.
