Today, the opening session of the meetings of the Council of Arab Economic Unity – the 114th regular session – kicked off in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, under the slogan “Towards Closer Cooperation for the Sustainability of Arab Food Security,” which will last for four days, with the participation of specialized Arab federations and ambassadors of the member states of the Council, where the Arab Union for Digital Economy participates with a delegation high-ranking official.

In the speech of the opening session, His Excellency the Sudanese Minister of Finance, Jibril Ibrahim, indicated that the meeting of the Council is taking place in an exceptional economic circumstance, due to the Corona pandemic, the disruption of food supply baskets, the increase in unemployment and the slowdown in growth rates, which requires joint effort and solidarity to confront it and reduce its effects. He called on the members of the Council and the Arab countries to invest in Sudan and seize opportunities in the fields of agriculture, livestock, agricultural industrialization and infrastructure, stressing his country’s full readiness to receive investors and facilitate all obstacles and turn them into profitable opportunities.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Economic Unity, Ambassador Muhammadi Ahmed, affirmed that the secretariat continues to work hard to achieve Arab food security in light of economic and social crises and climate changes, indicating that the elements for achieving Arab food security in Sudan are represented in fertile agricultural and water resources, manpower, competence and rich experiences. . Mohammadi Alni expected that these meetings would issue a document bearing the name (Khartoum Declaration for Arab Food Security) to be a reference and executive document for the reality and future of Arab food security and to contribute positively to the work of Arab governmental and non-governmental economic forums.

It is planned that several scientific working papers specialized in the fields of food investment, industrialization opportunities and food security projects will be presented during the meeting.
