The Arab Federation for the Digital Economy participated “via video communication” in the discussion symposium organized by the Union of Arab Agricultural Engineers entitled “The Role of the League of Arab States and its Organizations and Unions in Confronting the Challenges of Sustainable Agricultural Development in the Arab World,” in the presence of Arab ministers, organizations and unions concerned with agriculture and Arab food security.

For his part, His Excellency Minister Commissioner/Mohamed Khair Abdel Qader, Secretary General of the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy, gave a lecture during the symposium in which he emphasized the pivotal role of the League of Arab States in activating joint Arab action and maximizing the role of its institutions and civil society institutions working to achieve sustainable development goals. He also praised the role played by Arab organizations, unions and bodies affiliated with the League play a role in supporting sustainable development in the Arab world.

His Excellency also referred to the Arab Food Market Initiative, which establishes a broad alliance between government agencies, the public and private sectors, and the technological sector to create a digital virtual market through which the export capabilities of producers of different specializations can be enhanced, and administrative and technological solutions for transactions related to export activities can be found.

He stressed that food security constitutes one of the major challenges facing the Arab peoples and the world as a whole, stressing the importance of economic and investment integration between Arab countries to achieve food security in its various dimensions and components and to deal with the challenges that were reflected in the Arab countries due to international changes. He explained that the challenges that will face the Arab food market in the future are climate changes and their impact on food production and the availability of water resources, which requires working to develop and implement new strategies to enhance sustainability and preserve the natural resources important for food production.

In the end, he called on the attendees to use the Arab Food Market platform because of its advantages for the exporter and importer, and the necessity of developing agricultural production by shifting to smart agriculture and introducing widespread technology and the Internet of Things.
