H.E. Dr. Ali Mohammed Al Khouri, Advisor to the Arab Economic Unity Council and Chairman of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy (AFDE), met with Dr. Wu Shengwu on the sidelines of the Global Digital Trade Expo in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China.
The meeting focused on potential cooperation in digital economy, semiconductors, data centers, and artificial intelligence, in line with the Arab Digital Economy Vision endorsed by the Arab Summit in 2022, which the Federation implements in coordination with the League of Arab States.
The discussion also addressed transferring knowledge and expertise to Arab countries and building investment partnerships to empower Arab economies in developing their digital infrastructure, supporting a practical and sustainable digital transformation path.
Dr. Wu Shengwu praised the Arab Digital Economy Vision, highlighting its significance in positioning the Arab region on the global economic map. He also commended the pioneering role of the UAE in promoting digital innovation and supporting joint Arab initiatives in this sector.
About Dr. Wu Shengwu
Dr. Wu Shengwu is a prominent figure in China’s technology sector. He graduated from Tsinghua University in 2000 and has held several positions in government and academia, including Deputy Director General of the Electronic Information Administration at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and Executive Director of the National Major Science and Technology Projects Management Office.
He also served as Vice President of Tsinghua Unigroup, overseeing major companies in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and memory technology. Currently, he is Chairman of Qinghe Electronic Information Holdings, Chairman of the Investment Committee for Qinghe Pan-Semiconductor Investment Fund, and CEO of Ronxin Semiconductor Technology. Additionally, he serves as Vice President of the China Automotive Chip Industry Innovation Strategic Alliance and Deputy Director of its Scientific Committee.
Dr. Wu has received several prestigious national and scientific awards for his contributions to China’s digital industry, including the National Advanced Personality Award for Scientific and Technological Progress and the Zhejiang Province Science and Technology Progress Award.
Collaboration with Dr. Wu Shengwu is of particular significance for AFDE due to his deep expertise in industrial policy, the semiconductor sector, and leadership of major research institutions and technology companies. This partnership enables the Federation to benefit from his experience in digital project design, strategic management, and the development of advanced research and industrial collaborations linking Arab and Chinese capabilities. It also opens opportunities for joint initiatives in emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, smart cities, and digital financial systems, supporting the Arab digital transformation and advancing the Arab Digital Economy Vision endorsed by the 2022 Arab Summit.
