Digital Exports in Egypt as a Driver for Foreign Currency
Digital exports in Egypt are becoming one of the areas the state is betting on to increase its foreign currency resources, amid expanding global demand for technological services that can be delivered from within Egypt to clients and foreign markets without the need to ship a physical product or bear traditional shipping and storage costs.
Digital Export Targets Through 2030
Eng. Rafat Hendy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said that Egypt aims to raise the volume of its digital exports to $8 billion by 2028, with digital services exports in the outsourcing sector expected to rise to $12 billion by 2029, in parallel with efforts to localize the electronics industry and increase the number of companies working in electronics design to 120 companies by 2030.
Components of Digital Exports and the Role of Outsourcing
Digital exports include technology-based services and products that can be delivered and handed over electronically, such as software and application development, technical support services, data analysis, cloud computing, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence applications, in addition to design and electronic engineering services. Outsourcing is one of the most prominent components of these exports, as global companies assign part of their work to specialized companies in Egypt, such as customer services, technical support, programming, and data management.
Growth of Digital Exports and Localization of the Electronics Industry
The minister noted that digital exports rose by 124% since 2018 to reach $7.4 billion during 2025, alongside Egypt’s success in attracting major brands specialized in mobile phone manufacturing, with more than 10 million mobile devices produced during 2025.
