Support for Startups and SMEs in Egypt
Egypt is paying increasing attention to startups and small and medium-sized enterprises, considering them a key element in developing the digital economy. Eng. Khalil Hassan Khalil, Head of the General Division for Digital Economy and Technology at the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, revealed the division’s cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) in a project to digitize the private sector, within the framework of the Regional Program for Digital Trade and E-Commerce in the Middle East and North Africa region, which is jointly funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
Pillars of the Regional Digital Trade Program
The program is based on five main pillars: developing strategic and regulatory frameworks, applying digital trade tools such as payments and electronic signatures, facilitating trade procedures, empowering the private sector and building its capacities, and enhancing regional cooperation and integration.
Supporting the International Presence of Egyptian Companies
Regarding support for international presence, Khalil revealed support for about 320 Egyptian companies to participate in a number of the most prominent international technology exhibitions and conferences, including major events such as CES in Las Vegas and Web Summit in Lisbon, where the number of Egyptian companies that have participated in Web Summit so far has exceeded 240 companies.
Training Programs and Capacity Building
He also noted the implementation of training programs in cooperation with the Ministry of Communications and the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), benefiting about 3,200 trainees from 82 companies across the country, with a target of training 20 companies in the field of artificial intelligence during the current year, where participants bear only about 10% of the training cost.
