Egypt’s Ranking in the 2026 Arab Digital Economy Index

On the regional rankings front, Egypt ranked ninth among Arab countries in the 2026 Arab Digital Economy Index, issued by the Arab Union for Digital Economy, scoring 54.73 points—up 4.3 points from the previous year—which is considered a high average within the classification of digitally emerging countries.

Index Scope and Country Groupings

The index measures digital readiness across 22 Arab countries. The UAE ranked first, followed by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and Oman in the “Technological Sovereignty Leaders” category, while Egypt came within the medium-performance group alongside Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria.

Egypt’s Market Opportunities

The index noted that the Egyptian market is broad and offers significant opportunities for e-commerce growth, in tandem with a trend toward raising the digital economy’s contribution to GDP. It added that the dynamism of startups in Egypt gives the digital market clear weight within the digital economy, with greater opportunities to benefit from technological investments.

Overall Findings: Arab Region vs. Global Benchmarks

Overall, the index results revealed disparity in Arab countries’ position within the global digital economy, with the Arab average reaching 44.33 points, compared to a reference average of 80.85 points, reflecting a clear gap in the maturity level of the digital ecosystem. A comparison between 2024 and 2026 showed improvement in the results of 20 Arab countries, versus a limited decline in two countries, indicating an overall positive trend, although the pace of improvement remains insufficient to close the gap with reference levels.
