Exceptional Growth in the Global Cloud Infrastructure Market in Q2 2026

The global cloud infrastructure market witnessed exceptional growth during the second quarter of 2026, achieving its highest expansion rate in eight years.

According to the latest data from Synergy Research Group, total global enterprise spending on cloud infrastructure services reached $143.4 billion during the second quarter of 2026, an annual increase of 43% compared to about $100 billion in the same period last year. This accelerated growth marks the eleventh consecutive quarter of expansion, with the market size doubling during this period.

AI Drives the Boom

This unprecedented jump in spending is mainly attributed to rising demand for generative AI services. John Dinsdale, Chief Analyst at Synergy Research Group, explained that “AI technology has set the cloud market on fire and is now driving unprecedented growth,” noting that cloud services dedicated to generative AI are growing at 165% annually.

The Big Three Dominate with Shifting Shares

Amazon (AWS), Microsoft (Azure), and Google Cloud continue to dominate the market with a combined share of 67%, but the internal distribution is witnessing notable shifts:

  • AWS: Maintained the lead with a 28% share, but down two points from last year, with revenues reaching $42.2 billion.

  • Microsoft Azure: Ranked second with a 20% share, recording revenue growth of 32%.

  • Google Cloud: Continued its upward climb, recording a record 15% share, with massive revenue growth of 82% to reach $24.8 billion.

It is worth noting that AWS’s market share declined while Google’s share rose, reflecting intense competition for AI workloads.

Expectations of Continued Momentum

Expectations indicate that this upward momentum will continue. Gartner has raised its estimates for global spending on cloud infrastructure services (IaaS) in 2026 to $287 billion, with projected growth of 29.3%. TrendForce also expects capital expenditure by the nine largest cloud service providers to reach about $830 billion during the same year.
