An unprecedented initiative with the UAE’s support to advance political and social stability in the Arab world

An international tribute from the United Nations, the Development Program and the World Bank for comprehensive development opportunities in the Arab world

A common Arab vision for the digital economy, is the title of the unprecedented initiative supported by the United Arab Emirates to support political, social and economic stability in the Arab world through the digital economy portal

The vision, supported by the UAE government and sponsored by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces, aims to advance political and social stability in the Arab world through digital inclusion and the development of legislative and technological infrastructures based on digital knowledge to achieve security, safety and prosperity for Arab societies.

It is not surprising that this support from the leadership of the Emirates, because the common Arab vision would contribute to the adoption of Arab economic solutions from a comprehensive Arab perspective based on the foundations of cooperation and joint Arab action. The initiative also emphasizes the role of modern technology and its use as a tool to achieve sustainable development goals and achieve economic growth rates by creating investment opportunities and supporting new markets and job opportunities.

The Council of Arab Economic Unity in the League of Arab States, the body responsible for Arab strategy and strengthening cooperation with international organizations in this field, held a series of international meetings, the last of which was in the United States of America with representatives of the United Nations, the Development Program and the World Bank with the aim of strengthening the efforts of effective international institutions concerned with developing Global economies and social and development stability programs, as the project constitutes a common ground that lays the foundation for the advancement of Arab societies, their economies, and their social and economic security.

The delegation of the Council, headed by Dr. Ali Al-Khouri, Advisor to the Council of Arab Economic Unity with Murad Wehbe, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Regional Director of the Office of Arab States at the United Nations Development Program and with senior officials of the United Nations Division for the Public Sector and Digital Government. The investments of the Development Office in the Arab countries are estimated at about one billion US dollars.

The World Bank stressed the importance of the council’s role and plans in supporting the strengthening of cooperation between Arab countries through the digital economy portal, especially the knowledge-based technological, legislative and development infrastructures.

The United Nations, the United Nations Development Program and the World Bank also commended the initiative and the efforts of the Council, which would advance comprehensive development and enhance opportunities for cooperation between Arab countries.

The approach of the UAE leadership is based on promoting global peace, advancing economic and social stability, and empowering the knowledge of Arab youth. It has launched several programs to strengthen knowledge societies, such as the “One Million Arab Coders Project” and the “E-learning School” platform, which provides free mathematics and science education to more than 50 million people. Arab students around the world, and other projects that support the sustainable development of Arab societies

The initiative is a new model for developing the region’s economies in keeping with global developments and transformations. The UAE is also putting its acclaimed expertise in all fields to enhance sustainable development frameworks in the Arab countries

The axes of the Arab digital economy strategy will be presented to representatives of Arab countries at an international conference hosted by Abu Dhabi in mid-December 2018. It is planned to review the outputs of the study that will result in development initiatives and projects in the areas of transformation and the digital economy in preparation for presenting them to Arab leaders during the Arab summit to be held in March 2019 in Tunisia
