The conclusion of the work of the League of Arab States committees and important recommendations for the Arab Union for Digital Economy

The work of the meeting (54) of the Higher Coordinating Committee for joint Arab action and the meeting (6) of the forum of qualitative, specialized Arab federations were concluded, in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the Arab League, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The work of the committees continued for 4 days, and the meetings discussed the issues on their agenda, including food security, the required role of specialized Arab organizations, the results of the work of the 31st session of the League of Arab States Council at the level of the summit held in Algiers in November 2022, and the results of the work of the Climate Summit “COP27”. And held in Sharm El-Sheikh in mid-November 2022, as well as the proposal of the Arab Labor Organization “organizing an Arab / international conference on the digital economy and the role of the private sector in development and employment” and reviewing the Arab strategy for cybersecurity.

The initiatives and projects of joint Arab action organizations and institutions to prepare for the Arab economic and social development summit in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania “Nouakchott” were also discussed and presented.

The meeting discussed the issues raised, including the required role of the Arab federations within the framework of the outcomes of the Arab summit held in Algeria in November 2022, the outcomes of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Sharm El-Sheikh in mid-November 2022, and the Arab vision for the digital economy. Which was prepared by the Arab Union for Digital Economy, as well as the results of the work of the International Arab Conference and Exhibition for Small and Medium Industries, which was held in Algeria in November 2022.

The meetings also included a set of recommendations presented by the Arab Union for the Digital Economy, most notably:

  1. Developing a study or a technical map for the most important projects related to the digital economy in the Arab region and building integrated electronic databases that contain information and data related to these opportunities or needs, in cooperation with the ministries and concerned authorities in the Arab countries to form a catalyst for investment in these areas.
  2. Invite federations and organizations to issue studies and research that contribute to the sustainable development of the economies of Arab countries. These studies can be conducted in a cooperative and joint manner with the Arab Federation for Digital Economy.
  3. The call for building an interconnected network of networked infrastructure that includes data centers and Internet exchange in order to enable the creation of a regional technological environment that supports Arab solutions and applications that support the digital economy in a safe way and away from various global threats.
  4. Disseminate the Arab vision of the digital economy and the initiatives to draw on it and benefit from the preparation of various studies and research on the digital economy and the preparation of relevant strategic programs.
  5. That the General Secretariat of the Arab League adopt the activation of the fund to support digital economy projects announced at the 2019 Economic Summit in Beirut.
  6. Adopting and disseminating the Arab Index for the Digital Economy for purposes of guiding the preparation of programs and plans and identifying investment opportunities and activities leading to the development of the digital economy.
  7. Motivating institutions that provide digital services to provide easy-to-acquire digital devices to achieve rational digital justice and facilitate the acquisition of devices while securing the right to access smart internet for all social classes.
  8. Adopt concepts and establish an environment that encourages innovation from an early age, to raise a generation that makes innovation and solution-making one of its most important tools.
