His Excellency explained, Dr. Ali Mohamed Al-Khouri, Advisor to the Council of Arab Economic Unity and President of the Arab Union for Digital Economy, that in order to face the grave challenges facing the Arab region as a result of the global crises, the importance of shifting towards the concepts of the digital economy, which is based on knowledge and innovation, has become apparent as an opportunity that cannot be missed, especially for building a regional and national strategy. And achieving rapid and large economic development leaps, and with it it became necessary for the Arab world to take advantage of the opportunities that modern technologies have become available in addressing the challenges of productivity, quantity and quality, and in improving the general standard of living.

This came in a speech he delivered at the meeting of the 54th session of the Higher Coordinating Committee for Joint Arab Action, in the presence of His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

His Excellency the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Arab Union for Digital Economy stressed the importance of adopting modern, well-studied development visions that take into account the potential risks and benefits, referring to the Arab vision initiative for the digital economy that was adopted at the Arab Summit held in Algeria, and that it serves as a roadmap for joint Arab action.

He noted that the Arab vision for the digital economy covers large areas of business sectors, starting from the infrastructure and legislation necessary to possess an effective integrated environment, to enable the optimal use of digital technologies, passing through possessing the ability and environment that supports creativity, innovation and the knowledge industry, and provides balanced treatments between government services and their role versus role. The business sector, ending with the citizen and the role of the individual in achieving added economic and social value.

 

He pointed out that the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, in partnership with a large number of international organizations, has issued a periodic Arab report since 2018, which measures the maturity and depth of the digital and economic situation in the Arab countries, and provides insights and recommendations for policy and decision makers in the Arab region in order to achieve the goals of sustainable economic and digital growth. .

He added that the Higher Coordinating Committee for Joint Arab Action abounds in the membership of high-level Arab institutions and capabilities, which can be considered as a center of gravity among Arab decision-making centers, and represent an important bridge to link ideas, studies and recommendations with policy-makers and decision-makers, which highlights the importance of the role of Arab institutions in discussing Challenges, exploring opportunities, and presenting pragmatic proposals and recommendations on issues and strategies of interest to the Arab citizen.

 

His Excellency Dr. completed. Ali Mohamed Al-Khouri that the issue of Arab integration, for which the Arab League was established, is still looking forward to leaps in the level of achievements, and is waiting for it to have a common ground to revive opportunities for sustainable economic and social development in the Arab region, and that it is possible to benefit from the economic and technology sectors that have become One of the sectors that represent the best way to a new kind of integration and facing global risks.

Then he pointed out that the issue of Arab-Arab investments can take a new and serious turn in this context, and that Arab institutions can play pivotal roles in stating the necessary recommendations for the purposes of providing the requirements of an encouraging and attractive environment for Arab and international investments, to be present and contribute to building economic, technological and knowledge capabilities. needed in the Arab region.

He also referred to the decision of the Arab Economic Summit in Beirut in 2019, which included the establishment of an Arab fund to finance digital economy projects, and his hope to activate the fund and discuss mechanisms for its implementation.

He stressed that the Arab Union for the Digital Economy puts all its capabilities in the service of the goals and efforts of joint Arab action, and looks forward to more constructive cooperation with the institutions of joint Arab action.
