The Arab Federation for Digital Economy participates in the eighth meeting of the Arab Artificial Intelligence Task Force at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in New Alamein City

As part of the implementation of the decision of the Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information, the eighth meeting of the Arab Artificial Intelligence Task Force was held on November 27 and 28, 2024, graciously hosted by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport at the Academy’s New Alamein City branch.

The meeting was organized by the Department of Communications and Information Technology Development of the League of Arab States, in cooperation with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, and chaired by the Arab Republic of Egypt, represented by Her Excellency Professor Dr. Hoda Baraka, Advisor to the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The opening session of the meeting was attended by a group of prominent figures involved in the field of artificial intelligence in the Arab region, including His Excellency Professor Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport; Dr. Khaled Wali, Minister Plenipotentiary and Director of the Department of Communication and Information Technology Development at the League of Arab States; Her Excellency Professor Dr. Hoda Baraka, Chair of the Arab Task Force on Artificial Intelligence and Advisor to the Egyptian Minister of Communications and Information Technology; and His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Khair Abdel Qader, Secretary-General of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy.

The meeting agenda included discussions of several important items, most notably:

1. The team’s efforts on the unified Arab strategy for artificial intelligence: from inception to launch, with a presentation by the League’s General Secretariat.

2. Launching the final version of the Arab strategy for artificial intelligence, presented by the team’s leadership (the Arab Republic of Egypt).

3. Discussing the draft Arab Code of Ethics for Artificial Intelligence.

4. Reviewing the efforts of Arab countries in the field of artificial intelligence.

5. Participation of Arab and regional organizations with presentations on their efforts in the field of artificial intelligence.

6- Future steps for implementing the Arab Artificial Intelligence Strategy.

Representatives from 14 Arab countries participated in the meeting, in addition to a delegation from the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States headed by His Excellency Dr. Khaled Wali. A number of international, Arab, and regional organizations also attended, including:

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, the International Telecommunication Union, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization, and the Digital Cooperation Organization.

The meeting concluded with participants emphasizing the importance of Arab cooperation to promote the uses of artificial intelligence and activate the Arab Code of Ethics for Artificial Intelligence, with the commencement of the implementation of future plans for the Unified Arab Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
