The Arab Federation for Digital Economy Participates in the First Global Public Digital Infrastructure Summit

The Arab Federation for Digital Economy participated in the first Global Public Digital Infrastructure Summit, hosted by the Arab Republic of Egypt, represented by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, the International Telecommunication Union, and the World Bank, and organized by Co-Develop, from October 1-3, 2024, at the St. Regis Hotel, New Administrative Capital, Cairo, Egypt.

In his opening remarks at the summit, His Excellency Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, noted that Egypt’s hosting of the Global Public Digital Infrastructure Summit is an important step towards strengthening its position as a leading country in technology and innovation. He explained that through international cooperation and a commitment to sustainable development, Egypt seeks to achieve a better digital future for all citizens.

The Minister of Communications also emphasized the importance of the summit, which spearheads global discussions on public digital infrastructure. He added that the summit is not just a one-off event, but rather a vital platform for exchanging expertise and experiences between countries. It will provide Egypt with the opportunity to showcase its achievements in this field and learn from successful global experiences.

The summit aimed to provide a platform for dialogue and the exchange of knowledge and insights among stakeholders and those interested in the public digital infrastructure system from the government sector, industry, and civil society. This aims to reach a unified understanding of digital infrastructure around the world, establish regional and international partnerships, and enhance strategic cooperation between participating countries, donors, and companies implementing digital transformation processes to advance digital infrastructure globally.

The Global Public Digital Infrastructure Summit brought together leaders from international organizations, a number of Arab ministers, senior global leaders in digital transformation, and a group of leaders from the public and private sectors, as well as experts from around the world, to enhance digital infrastructure in the Arab region.

The summit included several sessions offering comprehensive overviews of the broad scope of the digital public infrastructure ecosystem, highlighting leading technologies, policy frameworks, and implementation models that are reshaping the digital public infrastructure landscape around the world.

The summit also reviewed the progress made by countries in adopting and implementing digital public infrastructure principles, focusing on the rapidly changing and broad nature of this ecosystem and its role in achieving digital transformation at the local and global levels.

The Arab Federation for Digital Economy participated with an official delegation headed by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Al Darmaki, Deputy Secretary-General of the Federation, and Engineer Ayman Mokhtar Ghoneim, Assistant Secretary-General.
